Puppies and Shows
June 12, 2010
Greetings from Candle Hill,
Thank you all who have been patient about pictures and updates during our very busy month of May.
So much has been happening.
First, we have two new litters of puppies, one longcoated litter out of Max and Sara, and one hard core but loveable working line litter our of our indomitable sire Hero and Wessa.
Here are Max and Sara’s pups after their first meal.

Hero and Wessa’s pups are going to be beautiful also, with Hero’s magnificent working drive and temperament and Wessa’s sweet confidence and large bone. The pups are red sable and black sable, two weeks old.

May is the dog event month in Idaho as everything seems to be scheduled for that beautiful month between spring and summer when there is still snow on the mountains, the grass is green, and the temperatures delightful. We entered six trials in three weekends. Kindra achieved both her Schutzhund BH and AKC CD, Hero achieved his CD, and Jake, entering his first Rally competitions, achieved two legs. Both Hero and Kindra acquired all three legs in just three competitions. The most fun though was that we were able to see one of Max and Wessa’s pups from 2008 who also achieved her CD in the same trials. This puppy, Phoebe, placed in the ribbons at each event. On each day of the Spokane Dog Training Club Trial, Phoebe earned the Highest Scoring German Shepherd prize. Congratulations Maellen, who has done a beautiful job training and handling Phoebe. Then on the one day when it was offered in Coeur d’Alene, Hero won the Highest Scoring German Shepherd prize. Way to go Candle Hill Shepherds!
Here I am with Hero, the judge, and Maellen and Phoebe, after our dogs were in a runoff together for second place.

Hero and I are laughing because we simply were not prepared to enter the ring for the runoff and were caught completely by surprise to be placing. Hero, being a schutzhund dog, has a different style of obedience particularly in heeling, than what they look for in the AKC. It was lots of fun. I’m so proud of our Candle Hill Shepherds!

Happy summer!
